Online TV
I was wondering today why they don’t make TV sets that would have Wi-Fi built in. I am actually looking for a new TV set and I thought it would be great to have Internet browser built in. Right now I need to connect my computer to TV using cable and it’s a mess. Not to mention I had to buy a new laptop just to have HDMI port, so that I can connect it to my TV properly.
Browsing online I came to conclusion that TV companies will not want that. In fact, they will hate it. Why? TV channels would simply move to the Internet. “Normal” TV channels would loose viewers to people watching online TV. There are plenty of online TV channels that are free and don’t require any monthly payment for cable. All you need it an Internet connection and a laptop. Today’s Internet connections are fast to watch channels even in HD! Maybe this is also why some ISP in US thing of limiting people in amount of data they can download per month. Maybe some of the ISPs are even connected to TV broadcasters (well not just maybe, it’s a fact).
People already go online to watch movies, TV shows, cartoons and news. It’s just a matter of time before they start ditching their cable TV providers and move to online TV streaming.
